Tottenham Hotspur are a Premier League football team from North London and are more commonly referred to as Spurs. They currently play at White Hart Lane which has a capacity of 36,000. The 'Hotspur' name is associated with harry Percival, who was also Harry Hotspur from Shakespeare's Henry IV Part 1. Percival was believed to own land in the neighbourhood. These days Tottenham play in white and dark blue kits with a hint of yellow. The team's crest is a cockerel standing on a football and their motto is 'Audere est Facere' which means 'To Do Is To Dare'.
Tottenham's biggest rivals are north London neighbours Arsenal, matches between the two teams are some of the most highly charged of the season and are known as 'North London derbies.
Tottenham were the one of the first teams to pay big money for foreign players, purchasing Ossie Ardiles and Ricky Villa following the 1978 World Cup Finals in Argentina.
Tottenham have won the FA Cup twice and in the 1983/84 season they won the UEFA Cup. Tottenham greats include Danny Blanchflower, Johnny GIles, Jimmy Greaves, Teddy Sheringham, Paul Gasgoine, Jurgen Klinsmann, Glen Hoddle, David Ginola and Robbie Keane.
The team are currently managed by Harry Redknapp and are enjoying fine form league and cup competitions.
